APPLIED
KINESIOLOGY
Pretoria (Tshwane) South Africa
Definition: Applied
kinesiology is a type of diagnosis utilizing muscle
testing as the main feedback mechanism to test how a person's
body is functioning. When properly applied, the outcome of an AK diagnosis
will determine the best form of therapy for the patient. Since AK pulls
together the integral parts of various complementary treatments, it
provides an interdisciplinary approach to health
care.
Typically, the applied kinesiologist looks for a
muscle that tests weak and then tries to ascertain why that muscle is not
functioning properly.
The practitioner will then evaluate and apply the
therapy that will restore that muscle's function back to
normal. Therapies used can include specific joint manipulation
or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques,
meridian therapy, clinical nutrition, dietary management and other types
of reflex procedures. In some cases, the practitioner may
check for environmental factors or food incompatibilities by using a
previously strong muscle to find what weakens it..
Applied
kinesiology is comprised of three parts-chemical, mental and structural
factor to describe the proper balance of the major health
categories.
The triad is represented by an equilateral triangle
with structural health as its core and the upright sides representing
chemical and mental health. When a person experiences poor health, it is
because of an imbalance in one or more of these three factors.
History:
A chiropractor named George Goodheart developed
kinesiology as a way of using the muscle's own strength to manipulate and
straighten the skeleton to which they are attached. His work was derived
on the belief that the structural integrity of the body was an important
component and indicator of the body's health and energy.
His work was
further revised and adapted by others and therefore the various types of
kinesiology that we have today. Health Kinesiology was developed by Dr.Jimmy Scott, who was a psychologist and discovered it was a powerful
method to query the body, bypassing the brain. Touch for Health was
created by John Thie as a safe but powerful way of
re-balancing the body and its
energies.
